Scootering Magazine Review: 'Waging War on the Obvious"... |
| |
|
The praise for ‘Waging War On The Obvious’ is flowing thick and fast, several glowing reviews have found their way to press but this one by Sargie at Scootering is our favourite.
"A mere six months into Connett's career and their debut mini album, Waging War On The Obvious is not just causing a few ripples, its more like tsunami size tidal waves crashing over the bland, banal and boring 'music' imposed on us in recent times.
Son, opens proceedings, revisiting late 60's psychadelia tinged pop, bringing ethics of that era bang up to date. Next is the powerful power pop anthem in the making Running Miles, followed by a shimmering, summer pop gem.
Perfect Melody looks back to the vaudeville, old time music hall style and blends that, ala Kinks, Small Faces, Blur, among others, with British guitar pop nous... a reprise of Perfect Melody is the closing track, complete with Kazoo!
Before which chronologically comes Song For Swingers, which sounds how Marc Bolan fronting The Byrds would have, should it have happened.
Cascading chords combine with THAT classic 60's drum roll on the introduction of Can't You Hear Me, which builds into a classic- in -the- making guitar pop nugget that Elvis Costello would have been proud of.
Waging War On The Obvious is an alternative pop goldmine,( meaning pop in the real sense of the word), overflowing with contemporary killer songs.
Simply a timeless, yet right now, package of alt-pop perfection

San Paolo’s Spring Lines... |
| |
|
The Mod’s favourite author Mr Paolo Hewitt, has caused much excitement within the Ikon office, his new additions to the stylish San Paolo range are as elegant as you would expect from the author of the Style Council, and from what we’re hearing very comfy too.
'It is great to be involved with Ikon shoes, absolutely fine purveyors of stylish footwear. The company know their history and so when I make suggestions or ideas they know exactly what I am talking about and then use that knowledge to create for the future. And what a stylish future that is.'

January sees the release of 'Waging War On The Obvious', the third release on the Original Ikon label.
The London Evening Standard memorably describes their sound as 'Nu-School Music Hall', which we at Ikon think captures their eclectic tastes and influences nicely.

Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake... |

Ikon were very excited in November to be supporting this original piece of music theatre, bringing the iconic tale of Happiness Stan and his search for the missing half of the moon to the stage.
A rollicking ride through the Magic of the Small Faces everyone should experience atleast once... originally released in 1968, Playbox Theatre celebrates The Small Faces and premieres the live show on stage 40 years on. |

The new book from Iain Munn, Mr Cools Dream - The Complete History of The Style Council, a chronical of Wellers Style council career, has been received with huge enthusiasm.
Amazon customers give it a massive 5 star rating. So it’s not difficult to see why its Wellers current read of choice and Eddie Pilller thinks “the books detail is breathtaking”. |
